Job Title: Deafblind Intervenor
Deafblind intervenor Axcis Education are looking for a deafblind intervenor to work full time and on a long term commitment to support some of their students with hearing or visual impairments, as well as any sensory needs. There would also be a potential for the job to go permanent for the right person as well. The school based on the outskirts of East Bristol cater to ages from 5-16 and a wide range of special educational needs. Much of this role would see you working with students on a 1:1 basis supporting them on both their personal needs but also their educational ones. Whilst this post is to start in September, we would consider someone that could start sooner. The right candidate will have experience and/or qualifications in working with sensory needs. Have a good understanding of speech and language barriers and be confident and aware of such things like, Makaton, BSL, PECs and other tools used to communicate with those deaf and blind. The right candidate will have all the qualities we look for in someone that works with children; empathic, understanding, patient and accommodating, working to the needs of the children. The are wonderful to work for, they offer all sorts of training and include those that work via agency and courses are often done after school and during inset days. They provide an inclusive and tight nit community that really feels like an extended family, especially when so many staff stay for so long. Their head teacher having worked there for 30 years.
