Job Title: Complex Needs Teaching Assistant (Hearing Impaired Unit) Location: Wandsworth, London Pay: Paid to scale Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Start Date: Monday 1st September We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join our team at a specialized hearing-impaired unit in Wandsworth. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in supporting students with complex needs, particularly those with hearing impairment, to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities: - Work closely with the lead teacher to deliver an effective educational experience to students with hearing impairments and other complex needs. - Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for each student, ensuring that specific goals are met. - Use a range of communication techniques, including sign language (BSL or other relevant forms), to engage with students and facilitate their learning and social development. - Adapt resources and teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students within the hearing-impaired unit. - Provide in-class support, including note taking, interpreting spoken language, and facilitating communication between students and staff. - Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to participate fully in lessons and school activities. - Assist with the assessment of student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/carers on the achievements and challenges faced by the students. - Work with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists, audiologists, and educational psychologists, to support the holistic development of the students. - Support students with personal care needs as required, respecting their dignity and promoting independence. - Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress, and any incidents that occur, in line with school policies and procedures. Required Skills and Qualifications: - NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent. - Experience working with children with complex needs, including those with hearing impairments. - Proficient in British Sign Language (BSL) or a willingness to train to an appropriate level. - An understanding of relevant legislation, guidelines, and policies, including the safeguarding of children. - Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. - Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. - A commitment to ongoing professional development and learning. - Enhanced DBS check. Desirable: - A degree or further qualification in a relevant subject area. - Additional training or experience in special educational needs (SEN).
