Job Title: ASD Teaching assistant
Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (EYFS/Year 1)
Location: Primary School, East London
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Temporary (initially for a few weeks, with potential for extension)
Pay: Competitive daily rate, paid weekly via Axcis Education
Axcis Education is currently working with a supportive and welcoming primary school in East London who are seeking a caring, experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team in September.
This role involves working as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant across EYFS and potentially Year 1, supporting children with social and communication difficulties, including pre-verbal pupils with autism. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping to create a calm, inclusive learning environment and supporting children's development through structured, nurturing interaction.
About the role:
1:1 support for children with autism and social communication needs
Working primarily in EYFS, with possible work in Year 1
Supporting communication, social interaction, and early learning skills
Working closely with class teachers and SENCO to deliver consistent support
Initially a short-term placement to cover a gap while awaiting return from maternity leave, with the possibility of extension
Ideal candidates will have:
Experience working with pre-verbal children with autism
Understanding of early years development and EYFS framework
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Experience using communication strategies such as PECS or Makaton (desirable)
A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
