Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant Job in Wythenshawe:
Are you looking for a rewarding role as an Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant in Wythenshawe? We are seeking dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to support young people aged 11–16 within a specialist Alternative Provision setting.
This provision supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping students overcome barriers to learning through a nurturing, structured, and trauma-informed approach.
The Role – SEMH Teaching Assistant
As an Alternative Provision TA, you will support students both academically and emotionally, helping them engage positively with education and develop confidence, resilience, and social skills.
You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to create a safe and supportive learning environment for pupils with additional behavioural and emotional needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs in classroom and intervention settings
• Use trauma-informed strategies to support behaviour and emotional regulation
• Build positive, professional relationships with students
• Assist with personalised learning plans and targeted interventions
• Promote a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
• Encourage student independence, confidence, and resilience
• Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, carers, and support staff
About You
We are looking for candidates who are:
• Passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs
• Calm, patient, and resilient under pressure
• Skilled in behaviour support or willing to develop trauma-informed practice
• Strong communicators with excellent relationship-building skills
• Experienced in education, youth work, care, mentoring, or support work (desirable but not essential)
