Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant for SEND Support in Year 4
Axcis Education is currently seeking a highly experienced and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a primary school after half-term, supporting a Year 4 pupil with Autism and challenging behaviour. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with strong SEND experience who can bring patience, understanding, and expertise to help a pupil succeed. Role Overview: The successful candidate will provide tailored support to a young male with ADHD and ASD who requires close assistance throughout the school day. The pupil demonstrates challenging behaviour and requires someone with proven experience working with SEND pupils in a primary setting. Key Responsibilities: Supporting the pupil with their learning while accommodating their needs, including offering regular rest and movement breaks such as badminton or board games. Working with the adapted curriculum, as the pupil is working below age-related expectations. Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours, which may include occasional spitting, throwing objects, and hitting out at adults or peers. Using effective strategies to engage the pupil in a safe and supportive environment. Collaborating with teaching staff to ensure the pupil’s educational and emotional needs are met. Key Requirements: Significant experience working with SEND pupils, particularly those with ASD and challenging behaviour. Ability to manage difficult behaviour calmly and effectively. A patient, flexible, and physically fit individual who can engage with the pupil and adapt as needed. A caring, professional, and discreet nature. Ideally, the candidate will be Team Teach trained, or willing to undergo training. Candidates with prior experience in similar roles are strongly preferred. We are not looking for graduates seeking future teaching roles or learning mentors. Additional Information: The role is expected to start with trial sessions during the week beginning 21st October.
