Start Date: September 2025 (or sooner for the right person)
Location: Erdington
Position: Full-time SEND Teaching Assistant – Reception (1:1 Support)
Pay: From £89 per day / £13.86 per hour
Are you someone who believes every child deserves the chance to be understood and to flourish? We’re looking for a warm, patient, and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a wonderful non-verbal child in Reception. Your Makaton experience will be key, as this is the primary way you’ll communicate and build connection.
This role is perfect for someone who has experience working in a school setting, ideally supporting children with SEND. If you come from a nursery background and have relevant experience, we’d love to hear from you too.
What you’ll be doing:
• Providing personalised, one-to-one support to a non-verbal Reception child using Makaton
• Supporting the child’s communication, social, and learning development every day
• Working closely with teachers and the SENCO to follow detailed support plans
• Helping create a calm, nurturing environment where the child feels safe and valued
• Celebrating small steps of progress and being a constant source of encouragement
What we’re looking for:
• Makaton experience is essential—you’ll be the child’s main way to communicate
• Previous school experience is a must, but nursery experience with SEND children will be considered
• A patient, caring, and flexible approach—this role requires empathy and resilience
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with a team
• A valid DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
This is more than just a job—it’s a chance to build a trusting relationship and make a profound difference in a child’s life from the very start of their school journey.
If you’re ready to bring your skills, heart, and Makaton knowledge to this rewarding role, please apply now with your CV. We can’t wait to meet you!
